Title: packing diffs Post by: Nic-z on April 11, 2008, 08:44:50 AM I looked at it last night, it looks pretty invovled to get those axles off to get to the diffs, how great of a performance increase am I going to get out this if I pack the diffs? and if its that big what kind of grease do I use? thanks.
Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: briankstan on April 11, 2008, 10:18:12 AM I beleive the only one with packed diff are russ. I'm not sure on the increased performance. it will allow you to attempt to flip the body back over though. ;)
Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: Russ on April 12, 2008, 11:43:42 PM Its not that bad really. Just take of the axles one at a time and open em up. The difs are then accessable. I used Racers Edge Heavy diff grease or diff locking grease or something like that. If you want to use some I can bring it next time we race. If you have some heavy grease around you can use that. All it does is slow down the diff action so you get a little less slip.

Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: Russ on April 14, 2008, 07:52:48 AM No problem.
Make sure to remind me the day of or the day before the race. Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: Nic-z on April 14, 2008, 10:50:51 AM no problemo I got my pinion on and works great tested it yesterday, would vasaline work for diff greese?
Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: Russ on April 14, 2008, 11:25:22 AM Yes it would work to lube the diff, but what you want is something thick to limit the diff action. In other words you want the gears in the diff to not move so freely.
Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: briankstan on April 14, 2008, 11:43:46 AM Does this hurt your turning radius? Just curious
Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: Russ on April 14, 2008, 11:54:25 AM No because you are not full locking the diff. Which btw I have been thinking of doing. Just the rear diff not the front. With the terrain mostly concrete and dirt we run on the tires have plenty of slip. If they had tons of grip then it might be bad to lock up the rear diff.
Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: Nic-z on April 14, 2008, 02:02:11 PM can you unlock the diff after locking it?
Title: Re: packing diffs Post by: Russ on April 14, 2008, 02:32:37 PM Depends how you do it. A good way is to just pack the diff with silly putty and then yes that can be removed. Some people just glue the gears together. Thats irreversible.
