Title: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 06, 2010, 10:59:16 AM Is it normal for the car to make a constant noise when you turn it on.. I don't know how to explain it but every time I turn on the car it makes it and it will change pitches depending on turning/throttle..
Also brian, I'll be comin out on thursday, do you still have one of those ball difs? also looking to pick up that other motor Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on January 06, 2010, 12:51:22 PM I do have a ball diff. I've sold all the motors I had. I'll get some more coming.
the car will make some twitch sound, it's the servos always trying to certer itself. We typically say it's not a mini-z if it doesn't do that. One thing to note, you always want to turn the TX on First, and the Turn it off Last. this was you won't have a car that can go out of control. Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 08, 2010, 07:15:48 PM hey brian, on the rear dampener is there supposed to be a spring above and below it?
edit: nm there are, i think my wife knocked one off my desk and we can't find it so i'll have to grab a new set from ya tomorrow Title: Re: Few questions.. Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 09, 2010, 07:23:01 PM brian i can't figure out how to open my ball dif :(:(
Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on January 10, 2010, 10:23:44 AM brian i can't figure out how to open my ball dif :(:( you need to loosen the adjustment screw a little. then on the end pop off the little e-clip. then it will come apart. be careful not to loos the e clip or any of the balls. Oh when putting it back together I recommend only using 5 of the ball, alternate them between holes. Make sure you sand the disk nice and flat and be sure to get any coating that is on them off. Then re assemble and you should be good to go. it should be nice and smooth action then install. the gear on the motor will hold the gear, and if you spin one wheel the other should spin smoothly in the opposite direction. here is a very good diff build tutorial. Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on January 10, 2010, 06:54:19 PM how to remove eclip a little screw driver, razor knife. anything small that you can use to pop it off. :) Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 10, 2010, 07:07:51 PM which way is it supposed to pop, upward or outward,
nm finally got it off Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 10, 2010, 08:49:46 PM so on one side of the gear there is the metal plate and on the other side of the gear there is the same metal plate that is attached to the copper-lookin part, do i need to sand that plate as well?
i also got team associated silicone grease, will that work? Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on January 11, 2010, 07:05:59 AM so on one side of the gear there is the metal plate and on the other side of the gear there is the same metal plate that is attached to the copper-lookin part, do i need to sand that plate as well? i also got team associated silicone grease, will that work? yes the grease will work. I would sand both sides of both of them, this is the surface that the diff balls run on. Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: Russ on January 11, 2010, 10:26:37 AM Here are a couple "How To" articles on building a diff. I'm sure there are more out there if you search.
Atomic Mods How To Here (http://www.atomicmods.com/Categories/Tutorial-1-28-Mini-Z-Building-the-Ultimate-Differential.aspx) Reflex Racing How To Here (http://www.reflexracing.net/MR02_build_part_1.asp) My best advise is make sure to build on a towel to catch the diff balls that always fall. Keep your hand over the end of the ball diff while re-installing the clip just in case it flies away. I usually suggest building in a non carpeted area as it makes it easier to find if you do drop it. Good luck! Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 12, 2010, 07:44:17 PM any tips on getting the eclip back on
Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on January 12, 2010, 07:55:38 PM any tips on getting the eclip back on I just use a little screw driver. Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: Russ on January 13, 2010, 07:51:29 AM any tips on getting the eclip back on  Those little buggers suck. What I do is keep the diff adjuster nut on the other side as loose as possible but threaded on, and push everything towards it to get it out of the way of the slot where the clip goes. Then I use needle nose pliers to position the clip on the bearing with the open side towards the slot in the shaft. Then I turn the pliers up on end so one side of pliers is behind the shaft and the other side is behind the clip. Then I cup my other hand over the end and gently squeeze the pliers till the clip "pops" in. Sometimes it flies away  and thats why I cup my hand around it and always work over a towel to catch it if it drops. Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 13, 2010, 08:35:45 AM thx, will try some more when i get home from work.. looooooooool

Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 13, 2010, 07:39:45 PM I got it back together but it didn't feel too smooth :(.
I think I didn't use enough grease and I could have sanded a bit more.. I dunnoooooooooo its frustrating cuz I don't know what exactly to look for while doin these things Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 14, 2010, 06:56:23 PM also i lost the eclip, can i purchase some spares.. lol

Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on January 19, 2010, 03:10:34 PM Hey I was wondering if there was some time tonight or tomorrow that I could come over and practice a little bit to try and get my car running well.. If not that's fine I'll just stop by and grab the clip.
Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on January 19, 2010, 03:33:55 PM I'm going to have Jace over and help him get his car setup and ready as well. your welcome to come by after 6pm. tonight.

Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on February 09, 2010, 12:01:06 AM Hey brian, while searching for a new body(mine is starting to fall apart) what body style do i need to loo for?
That is MR02 RM/MM/etc... Thanks Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on February 09, 2010, 06:34:25 AM That SLR has been through alot !.
that cars is set up as MM 98mm. Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: Russ on February 09, 2010, 10:29:46 AM My Lambo body is 98MM. The Enzo is also. If you click on the "Downloads" just under the "Shout Box" on the left <---, then go to "General" and then select "Auto Scale Chart". In it you will find almost all of the Auto Scale bodies ever made less maybe some of the brand new ones. You could search MZR or Kyosho for an updated sheet. There are also Offset charts that show the wheels you need. Good Luck.
Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on February 09, 2010, 12:34:13 PM the 98mm bodies are actually rare compared to the other bodies out there. there are several different paint themes of each of the bodies I've listed.
Lamborghini Murcielago Ferrari Enzo Ford GT McLaren F1 LM McLaren GTR longtail McLaren Mercedes SLR Ferrari 575M Ford Mustang Nissian GT-R Lamborghini Diablo Aston Martin DB9 BMW M3 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti that's all I can think of. there might be one or two more though. Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: RonNation on February 09, 2010, 05:37:53 PM so would either of these work?

Post by: briankstan on February 10, 2010, 07:20:35 AM yes, either will work. you'll want to remember that the track is black so selecting a dark color car can have some unwanted hardships. the bodies will be harder to see both for you and for other racers. the white stripe on the mustang will make it more visible but the black M3 would be hard to see. it's up to you of course :)
Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: jpose on January 10, 2011, 09:13:52 PM I'am new to the rc sport. Can you please tell me which mr-02 I should buy. The 2.4GHz or the regular one.
Thanks jmp Title: Re: Few questions.. Post by: briankstan on January 11, 2011, 07:31:35 AM the 2.4 glitches less, and has a stronger Fet configuration, but will also cost quite a bit more. If you are just getting into Mini-Z's or RC's in general the AM car should be fine for you. I ran one for years without any trouble.
Are you local to us? if so we would be happy to show you the cars and let you test them at one of our race nights. |
