Title: pan car Post by: dew75 on December 12, 2010, 12:51:48 PM i would like to build a pan car. i have been looking at some cabon kits or the mr-02 car what would be my best choice. i have also looked at building one from a bare chassis.
Title: Re: pan car Post by: Russ on December 12, 2010, 04:13:59 PM I'm not really familiar with the other than Kyosho chassis cars. They sure look prety cool though. There is a discussion thread on various brands of aftermarket chassis' and the electronics you need. Looks like a guy could go in as deep as he wants with one. Maybe if you get one and it turns out really cool, everybody will follow suit.
However for cost and ease I would suggest just getting a PN pan car body and mounting it on a MR-02 with a fast motor, then add all the goodies as you go. The hard PN body comes with +3 wheels and is cheap (like $20 at the store). There is also a lightweight lexan body option for about $25 but you need to buy your own wheels. I really like racing this category but really its harder to race in because of the speeds and the width of the body. But is sure is fun!! Title: Re: pan car Post by: Russ on December 14, 2010, 09:10:40 AM Reflex shows a p-28 for pre-order. I also think that its an older model since Inzane sold out to lajf. The new version on the lajf site comes with threaded knuckles, two kyosho oil shocks and some other upgraded features. I bet Reflex could get the newer version if you contacted them. Looks like it would be easy to spend $400 - $600+ completing one.
I think I will stick with my suggestion about hopping up an MR-02 ;) . I guess it would still be easy to spend $400 on that though if you added an A-arm front, Gimballed motor pod, fets, motor, body, wheels, etc. to make it as nice as possible. Really though the best thing for racing pan cars is practice. In my opinion they are harder to drive than racers and less forgiving of mistakes. Maybe a stipped down MR-02 with a PN body and a ton of practice would be the best starting point. |
