Race Report 4-9-06 Aaron (Z Zaniac) stopped by this Sunday for a quick session of racing. He drove up from Cedar City to fly out of town for work. He decided to drop by for a couple of hours and get some racing in while in town. Kelly and I set up all the track that we had. It’s not all the track because some of the track is still over Chad’s house from our winter stint in his garage. We started setting up and decided to go with a 3 tiles wide on the long straight. This was the first time Kelly and I have driven on anything larger than 2 tiles wide. To me there seemed like an abundance of space…especially because there was only three of us there. This was a last minute thing and a few of our members work weekends so they wouldn’t be able to make it and the others couldn’t with the short notice. The missed out…LOL We set up a pretty technical track utilizing the wide inside corners and the 45° sections. We also had a double chicane that we had to deal with. All in all it was a great track with really good flow. We ran several good heats. That were pretty close. The racing was fast paced and lots of fun. We even picked up an audience of some neiborhood kids that stopped and watch a lot of the racing action. The highlight of the whole night for me was when I actually was able to race my F1 for the first time against competition. Needless to say I need to practice more because I finished well off the pace and 5 laps down. It has been several months since I had even driven my F1. I really like the feel and the speed. We were both running PN Speedy 05 motors and they are quite a bit faster than the Kyosho stock motors that we run in our club. We might consider upgrading for the summer since we will be running on a lot larger tracks. We ran some pretty close MR-02 Races with Aaron and my self trading the lead back and forth several times during each race. Kelly turned in a great showing as will only finishing a few laps down and is showing great improvement. I went though and cleaned out his car, changed the motor to new motor that was broke in with the water dipped method and it really seems to help his speed. Maybe a little to much because he was having a hard time adjusting to it, especially at the end of the long straight. We have a few battle wounds to report. Aaron broke on of the arms off of his chassis the top one that holds the king pin. I also incurred some battle wounds with a broken side body mount. Both were taken care of with some Super Glue. In fact my entire body is held together with Super Glue… Don’t forget to check out the race results and the track pictures by clicking on the corresponding links. |
