I'll have to check and see what Cygen's basketball schedule is,  I think it's later in the afternoon.   I'd like to come for sure, and I'm sure I could make it for a few hours.

do you have any additional info on what the track is like?   are you running RCP or another surface?

Lets put something together for a carpool.   I can drive if you all want to catch a ride with me.

Cool!! All are welcome. With the new warehouse we are racing in we have tons of space. We should get some current pics posted so you can check it out. I'll bring a camera on the 17th and post up some shots. There are lots of shots of our cars and some of the tracks in the gallery if you want to check em out.

I've split this out so we can discuss it.

Racing will be in Orem at Hobby Habbit at 10am.   they are going to be racing Mini-Z's with some of their typical locals.  this will be a new experience for most of them racing mini-z, but is sounds like they all have larger scale racing experience.

So far this is looking to be just a race for fun.   they haven't finalized any rules yet.   I think we'll all be fine running our "Stock Class" cars along with them.  Most of them will be running mostly stock MR-02's (I think).

We can car pool down if you all want,  I can probably get shumans van so we can fit all our gear, tables, and I will probably be bringing a track (just what I have at home should be fine).  I don't think this will all fit in my car,  so it needs to be the van or Maybe Russ's Truck and we can pitch in for gas.

So far I think Russ, Luke and me are planning to make it.

this is also good because hopefully a couple of them will come and join us for our Mini-Z racing as well. :D

ok,   should I bring some track with me then?   I know that the mini-96 is really tight for any more than 2 cars.   if we have the room I can bring enough track to fill a 13' x 18' area.  and we can adjust as needed.   My timing system is attached to the starting tiles of the 50 cm track  and the 2 don't combine.   I can bring what every we need.  I just need to know what to plan for.

yea on a bigger track you can easily run more,  we've run as many as 12 on a larger track,   it can get congested depending on the skill of the drivers and the size of the tracks.   the track I'll bring we can fit at least 5 cars on it at a time.

HFAY  is the acronym for “How Fast Are You?”   We run a point series that last for 5 months.   There is a specific track that each clubs sets up and runs.  Times are then compiled as if the races were run all together and points awarded according to where you places.  There are 2 races each month (one clockwise and one counter clockwise).   At the end of the 10 races prizes are awarded to the top 3 finishers. Then in the months between the point series (December and June) we run a Bigger track and its open to any club for free.  No prizes for this on just bragging rights,  this is the races we will be running on December 17th.    It’s a fun series to participate in and those that come race on Thursday will be enter with our club results :D   The series was the brain child of the following clubs Dorks on Wheels (PA), Washington GTG (Washington DC) and Salt Lake Mini-Z (Ut).   I run the series and we are starting our 9th Season  so it’s going on it’s 5th year.

More info is available on the HFAY Website.

I'm using the Ko Propo EX-10 Helios TX with the 2.4 ASF module,  the module is specific to the Mini-Z 2.4 boards.  I didn't like the Kyosho 2.4 radio either.

you can see it here..  KO Propo America (http://www.kopropo.com/america/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=121)

And the KO radio has like 10 model memory to run all your RC cars and trucks. If you check ebay you can get them for a good deal. I think HRP used to sell them not sure if they do now. You just need the different modules for different frequencies 2.4ghz, 27mhz am, and 75mhz fm.

PN Makes an adapter that will let you use the Ko module with you M8.   I know the M8 is a nice radio,  it's very similar in function to the Helios.

I know there is a module for the M8 that will allow you to use the AM 27mhz boards in the mini-z.

this is the Airtronics module for the mini-z, it is only for the M8,  won't work in the M11

part # TM-151CW

Yes the M8 is a very nice radio and one of the more popular. As Brian posted there are definately adapters available.

yes the PN adapter will work for the M8 and M11.  you will need the respective Ko Propo module to go with it either the AM or the 2.4 depending on what you car is.

Thanks for coming down guys..... that was pretty cool..... sorry for the hacks, this is alittle different than 1/8 buggy and 1/10 offroad

I'm interested to check out the bigger layout, do you guys gear up alittle for it?

Title: Re: Racing in Orem, December 12th.
Post by: briankstan on December 12, 2009, 07:04:29 PM
the layout is bigger,  it will have more turns also,  I might gear up a little higher for it as it has a long straight.  Maybe go with a 9 tooth pinion.

I'll see what I have for the F1,  I know I have a stock gear diff that would work better in your car.  Did the one you were running free up some?

Title: Re: Racing in Orem, December 12th.
Post by: newland on December 12, 2009, 10:24:47 PM
I tried the 6 (stock) 7 and 8 tooth today and ended up back at the 6...... so maybe the 8 if its not too tight.

Actually the diff did free up, I tore it apart a couple times afer you looked at it and put a drop of oil in there and just worked it in my hand and its pretty smooth. I think one of the pins jumed out of the holder and that was causing issues.... but with the high powered batts you gave me before the main, its just spinning the tires everywhere out of the corners, so the ball diff is the next bolt on I need. The gear diff just cant put the power down. For now I'm just going to spread some super thick diff oil (like 100,000k) on the gears and that will do till the ball diff shows up. We did that with the slashes when they first came out and it worked way better.

tony i think that 10,000 will work fine i was running with 5.000 and it felt good but 100,000 is going to be to heavy for the size of car

Awesome, I have some of that too  ;D thanks

So if I were to get a sedan type car.... what chassis would be the best? I've been readin on the MR03.... the whole radio thing is crap, man its alot to get my 3PK geared up to run my cars.... my F1 would need the 2.4 board.. $100, adapter $30, module $? havent even looked yet...... ugh its insane, I'll have over $500 in 2 cars..... I think stuff like that is why Mini Z's arent bigger than they are... Kyosho's arrogance determining costs of they're products definetly hasnt been overlooked on these little things.....

For $500 I can get a 1/8 nitro car decked out for a season of racing.... decisions  :-\

if you don't want to go that way,  I'd stick with the MR-02 with an AM board and just use the stock radio.  it's not a big difference anyways.   unless you are planning on upgrading later than I would say go 2.4 now.  I've seen the Ko Propo EX-10 radios go for as little as $100 on ebay,  then all you need is the 2.4 module.

Maybe we can talk and I can see how many are interested in upgrading.  I can do a group buy on the boards and get them down to say $65 for the board for you guys that want to do it, but I agree the Kyosho 2.4 radio is not really the way to go.  it's a descent radio but since you can only set it up for 1 car at a time it makes it harder than just selecting the car you are using.

I'm not running a KO radio  lol

Had one years ago and had problems with it, to boot it wasnt very comfortable to me..... my Futaba stuff has been flawless and its spread throughout all my cars/boats.

I'll do some more checking n the KO module.... you have the 2.4 module adapters in your store right?

I see the Kyosho one and the PN one..... theyre basically the same thing just the kyosho one has the case rather than just a board right?

I found the KO module #15502 + a Kyosho R246-1001 adapter and I'd be set for a MR03.... then to convert my F1 I'd need either the drop in Kyosho #MF14 board or the MR02 #MZ303 board and some tweaking to get it to work right?

Its funny how much stuff is listed by USA online shops that doesnt even come up on Kyoshos website..... like the 32704KM RX-7 MR03 (the one I want to order up)..... they're obviously getting it from Kyosho America, but they dont even show it online  lol  looks like they need a new web guy  :D
