Title: Wyoming Race 2011
Post by: briankstan on December 01, 2010, 11:18:02 AM
It's official the Wild West Winter Carnival Race will be January 15-16th at the Wind River Casino in Riverton, Wyoming.

Classes should be the same as they have always been (Super stock, Modified Pan, Formula 1, Kyosho Stock, Nascar).  I'll post up the entry form when it's completed.   Make plans now to be there.  Entry is typically $5 per class.

My plan will to leave on Friday around noon (it's about a 6 hour drive).   then come home after the mains on Sunday.

this is always a fun race with good competition and lots of racing.  Hope you can make it.    We can make carpool arrangements as well.

Just print out the form, or pick one up from me on Thursday, fill it out and turn it in along with payment when we are at the race.   I'll let Shannon know who is coming.

Thats great news. Sounds like the Denver guys are only sending one this year instead of the usual 4 or 5. Hopefully they have a good turnout.

Posted on UTRC:

This race is a ton of fun. Everybody is there to have a good time and there is a lot of racing to do. Especially if you are in more than one class. Most the racers are on our level so competition is good. We have gone for the last two years. Its a fairly cheap trip if you can share a room and gas with someone.

This is the entry form.

nice,  this is going to be lots of fun.

I'm talking with Shannon about some rules clarifications,  I'll post up the info about it.   We might go with a spec motor for some of the classes (PN 50 Turn).

Title: Re: Wyoming Race 2011
Post by: Russ on December 20, 2010, 01:49:20 PM
PN 50 Turns works for us since we just bought them. I would think just about everybody has a 70 turn if you want to make it easy though.

I would love to help with the rules if you guys need any help. I have some free time.

So it looks like we will be taking down 2 cars.

I'll be taking my car.  I can fit 4 people+ gear and luggage.

Planning on going with me are Russ,Jace and of course Cygen.    Chad or Luke will be driving down as well so we can split people and gear as needed.   If Darel is going he may want to carpool as well.   Andy might be flying in and will need to be picked up from the Airport as well.

When does everyone want to leave.   I would prefer leaving before noon as I would like to make the drive in the light if possible, just to anticipate the weather and would rather make the drive in the day light.

I was planning on taking Friday off so we can really leave at anytime.   What do you think?

Post by: Russ on December 21, 2010, 10:02:30 AM
If Ben can go I'm thinking he may want to take the fourth seat in your car Brian. Ben??

However do you really think we can fit 4 peoples luggage and car stuff in your trunk? Seems to me we were tight last year with just the 3 of us. Maybe we could just pack lighter. I have a roof mount luggage carrier we could take if needed.

Jace is for sure going,  he's already booked a room and I told him he could ride with us if needed.  He can confirm if he was going to drive down with us.     Ben could catch a ride with Chad and Luke possibly if he is planning on going.

I think we'll be fine with the room.

My girlfriend is coming down with me so we will drive separately.
I think we might leave friday morning.
Sounds like a lot of Utah peeps are going, this is going to be awesome.
Now, I just need more practice:)

So is the PN 70t motor considered stock motor for this Wyoming race?  Or do you actually have to have the kyosho stock motor?

Also, the PN 70t motor is the HFAY motor, correct?

I got a motor mount and stuff for Christmas. Just wondering if I should bother with drilling the stock motor or putting the PN 70t motor in.

put in the 70 turn motor.    We might go with a handout 50 turn, but I'm still trying to finalize that.

We are going with handout motors for the Stock Mini-z and Formula 1 classes.   (PN 50 turn motor)

for those of you that have already purchased them,   Russ and Chad.   you can use them.   Everyone else will need to pick one up at the race of from me prior to leaving.

talk to me for details.

I've got confirmation from Shannon that the track will be up around 5pm on Friday.   the Track will be open if you want to go and practice on Friday night.

I think we are going to leave in the morning and see if we can get there early enough to help setup,   then get some practice in on Friday night.

We can meet at Russ's house a little before 8 and be on the Road by 8am.   that will put us there around 2pm.   What do you think?

Wyoming Winter Carnival 2011 Race wrap up.

We arrived on Friday afternoon and helped setup the track,  we hung out and did some care tuning until about 10pm.

My Stock car was great,   I didn’t make any changes to it the whole weekend.    My F1 was pretty good,  I ran the first 2 qualifiers with it,  it was good but not great.   I decided to put some fresh rubber on it.   After the tire change the car had a lot more front end than I typically like,   I could handle it, but it got better and better as the races went.  The front scuffed in and it was probably my best handling car of the whole weekend.   My pan car was OK at first not really great.   The back end wasn’t very planted and it got worse throughout the first race,   after the race I went back and looked at it.   The preload on the top shock had backed off and was allowing the car to bottom out and causing me to spin.   I reset the preload and used some blue locktite on it so it wouldn’t move.   I also adjusted the preload on my side shocks,  changed my front shocks to a softer shock and finally went with some Kyosho 20 rear tires.     This was the ticket.  The car was very good,  nice smooth and fast.  I didn’t really get to push it hard in the main as we combined the entire class of 9 cars for the main.   There was lots of traffic and wrecks.  I went as fast as I could with the traffic but the car was excellent.

Jace qualified in the B Main in stock.   He won the B main  :flex: and was bumped to the A Main.  Great results for his first big Mini-Z Race.

The Salt Lake Gang as a whole had great results,   We took home all the first place trophies, and a few others as well.

Stock – Brian 1st place
Nascar – Russ 1st. place
Stock Kyosho – Cygen 1st. place
F1 – Brian 1st place, Russ 3rd place
Pan – Brian 1st Place

We had great final results but it was far from trouble free,  Cygen had board problems with his F1 and wasn’t able to run it.   Chad had some really bad handling issues with his F1, but we got them sorted out (eventually).   Luke was having issued with his steering on his racer and handling problems with his F1.    Chad had a dirty servo and while taking it apart to clean lost a part.   He amazingly managed to find it and we got it back together in time to make the A-main and finished 5th.

Here are the results from the mains.

A Main Stock (http://www.saltlakemini-z.com/Race_Results/Wyoming_2011/A-Main-Stock.html)
B Main Stock (http://www.saltlakemini-z.com/Race_Results/Wyoming_2011/B-Main-Stock-Main.html)
C Main Stock (http://www.saltlakemini-z.com/Race_Results/Wyoming_2011/C-Main-Stock.html)
F1 A Main (http://www.saltlakemini-z.com/Race_Results/Wyoming_2011/F1-A-Main.html)
Pan A Main (http://www.saltlakemini-z.com/Race_Results/Wyoming_2011/A-Main-Pan-Car.html)
Nascar A Main (http://www.saltlakemini-z.com/Race_Results/Wyoming_2011/Nascar-A-Main.html)

As always this is a great race to attend it’s lots of racing, and most of all it is a lot of fun.  This is a first class event and they always do a great job with it.

A special thanks goes out to Julie Watts for running the event and keeping everything moving smoothly.   We really appreciate your hard work.

I’d also like to publically thank PN Racing for providing some great prizes for the raffle, everyone came home with some great PN items.

Also Team Scream Racing provided some Matched AAA’s for the raffle, I believe they were the first items to go from the raffle table.  The TSR Batteries were the biggest winner this weekend.  Every car that placed 1st. was running the TSR Matched batteries.   Simply the best batteries out there for your Z in my opinion.

For all those that didn’t make this race,  Hopefully you can make it out next year.     It’s well worth the trip.

This event was amazing! That was so much fun I can't even handle it. I learned a lot about racing and that I NEED an F1, NASCAR, and pan car for next year. Vanessa also wants to come to our next race and drive a car. What a rush that was. I felt like I was shaking so bad and my heart was beating so fast that I thought I was gonna pass out haha
